You Are Not Here Because Something Broke. You Are Here Because Something Hasn't Been Reached Yet.
Most people who find their way to Areale have already done the work the world tells them to do — the therapy, the medication, the career, the relationship, the achievement, and something essential remains untouched.
Depth psychology works at a different level. It does not ask what is wrong with you. It asks what the unconscious psyche has been trying to say — through the patterns that repeat, the drive that never rests, the grief that has no obvious source, the self that feels, in private, like a performance.
That question changes everything about the work.
"Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate."
"I have succeeded by every external measure. I have never felt more like a stranger to myself."
"The drive is real. So is the exhaustion. I'm not sure anymore what I'm running toward — or what I'm running from."
"I keep repeating the same patterns in relationships and work. I understand them intellectually. That hasn't stopped anything."
"I learned very early which version of myself was welcome. I became very good at that version. I'm not sure what's left."
"I've been in therapy before. It helped with the symptoms. Something deeper was never touched."
"I don't want strategies. I want to understand what is actually happening inside me — and why."
Six Clinical Territories. One Coherent depth Psychological Framework
Every area of clinical focus at Areale is rooted in the same understanding: the unconscious psyche is not a problem to be managed. It is an intelligence to be met.
Depth Psychology & Jungian Therapy
The foundational framework. Shadow, individuation, archetype, the Self — applied as clinical methodology, not philosophical concept. The work that makes all other work possible.
Therapy for Professionals
For high-achieving professionals navigating burnout, the narcissistic wound, identity fragmentation, and the psychological cost of environments that were not designed with them in mind.
Shadow Work & Narcissistic Wound
Clinical work with the False Self, the disowned self, and the early wound that achievement was built to compensate for. Rigorous methodology. Not a wellness trend.
Therapy for Artists & Creatives
For artists, musicians, writers, performers, and creative professionals whose interior life is both the source of their work and the territory that most needs tending.

LGBTQ+ Affirming Depth Therapy
Two Populations. One Underlying Question.
Areale serves high-achieving professionals navigating the psychological cost of success — and artists and creatives navigating the psychological cost of living close to the interior. What unites them is the same question: who am I, beneath what I perform?
Depth psychology is built to explore and bring an answer to that question. Depth work does not flinch from the question or try to resolve it prematurely. It works with it — patiently, rigorously, and with full respect for its weight.
Areale offers in-person depth psychotherapy at 19 W 34th Street in Midtown Manhattan, and secure telehealth sessions across New York State.
01
The achiever who has arrived
Career, recognition, status — all present. The inner life does not match the outer one. Something persists beneath the accomplishment that no amount of further achievement has been able to reach.
02
The professional who performs two selves
The foreground: competence and credibility. The background: a quieter, more exhausting labor that most people in the room never see. The cost of carrying both has accumulated.
03
The artist whose source has gone quiet
The work used to feel like the truest thing. The creative block that has settled is not a skills problem. It is a psychological one — and it requires a clinician who understands that distinction.
04
The person ready for depth, not relief
Not looking for coping strategies. Ready to understand the roots — and willing to do the inner work that genuine understanding requires, however long it takes.
Depth Psychology speaks In Many Voices
Areale is informed by a breadth of primary scholars whose work constitutes the living body of depth psychological knowledge, from its Jungian and archetypal foundations to its Africanist, indigenous, and contemporary clinical expressions. These are not references. They are the intellectual formation through which every session is conducted.
I came to depth psychology the way most people who belong in it do — not as an intellectual interest, but as a necessity. The questions that drive this work are not abstract to me: What is the self beneath the self we perform? What does the unconscious psyche want? What does it mean to become who you actually are?
I founded Areale Counseling & Wellness in Midtown Manhattan to create a practice where those questions could be taken seriously — clinically, intellectually, and personally. My patients are professionals who have built the life they were supposed to build and arrived at a strange emptiness. They are artists navigating the psychological cost of creative life. They are people who have done years of work and still feel that something essential has not been touched.

I came to depth psychology the way most people who belong in it do, not as an intellectual interest, but as a necessity. The questions that drive this work are not abstract to me: What is the Self beneath the small self we perform? What does the unconscious psyche want from us? What does it mean to become who you actually are?
I founded Areale Counseling & Wellness in Midtown Manhattan to create a practice where those questions could be taken seriously, clinically, intellectually, and personally. My patients are professionals who have built the life they were supposed to build and arrived at a strange emptiness and loneliness. They are artists navigating the psychological cost of creative life. They are people who have done years of work and still feel that something essential has not been touched.
My doctoral training in depth psychology, integrative therapies and healing practices at Pacifica Graduate Institute — the institution that produced James Hillman’s archetypal psychology and Fanny Brewster’s Africanist depth psychology — is present in every clinical encounter, not as methodology applied from outside, but as a way of seeing that is now inseparable from how I work.
My clinical focus is the unconscious narcissistic wound — the early injury to the self that drives achievement, perfectionism, and the persistent sense that no external success is quite enough. I work with the False Self that was built to compensate for it, and toward the more real self that has been waiting beneath to emerge.
I offer in-person sessions in Midtown Manhattan and secure telehealth sessions across New York State.
