Insurance

Out-of-network. By design.

Areale Counseling & Wellness is a self-pay and out-of-network provider. This is a deliberate choice — one that protects your confidentiality and preserves the integrity of the therapeutic relationship.

When insurance is involved, a psychiatric diagnosis must be entered into your permanent medical record before treatment can proceed. Insurance companies then determine the type of therapy approved, the duration of treatment, and the number of sessions covered — decisions that belong in the consulting room, not with a third-party payer.

Working with an out-of-network provider means that the clinical decisions are made between you and your therapist — and nowhere else.

If your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, your insurance provider may cover a meaningful portion of session costs after your annual deductible is met. Our billing team will verify your benefits and provide a clear estimate of your out-of-pocket cost before your first appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about rates and insurance

How do I find out if my insurance covers out-of-network therapy?

Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask specifically about out-of-network mental health benefits. Key questions: Do I have out-of-network benefits? What is my deductible, and how much have I met? What percentage do you reimburse after the deductible? Our billing team is also happy to check your benefits on your behalf before your first appointment.

What is a superbill and how does it work?

A superbill is a detailed invoice that includes all the information your insurance company needs to process a reimbursement claim — including the date of service, session type, and diagnostic codes. We provide superbills monthly, which you submit directly to your insurance provider. Reimbursement timelines and amounts vary by plan.

Why does Areale not accept insurance directly?

Working directly with insurance companies requires a psychiatric diagnosis to be entered into your permanent medical record before treatment can begin. It also subjects the treatment plan — session frequency, duration, and type — to third-party review. Areale’s clinical decisions belong in the room between patient and therapist. Out-of-network practice protects that.

What happens if I need to cancel a session?

We require 48 hours notice to cancel or reschedule. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours notice are charged a cancellation fee of $200. If you have a genuine emergency, please reach out directly and we will handle it with care.

Are there reduced fees available?

Yes. Each month a small number of reduced-fee sessions are reserved for individuals experiencing genuine financial hardship. Availability is limited. Please contact us directly at (917) 905-4463 or through our contact form to enquire.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept debit card, credit card, checks, cash, EAP cards, HSA/FSA cards, and Zelle. Payment is due at the time of service. Our billing team is available to assist with any payment questions.
